The Active Brain Center, based in Toronto, is founded by S.Rajaratnam.
Our mission is to nurture the intelligence and creativity of a child by teaching exemplary computational skills using the abacus. Use of the abacus encourages whole brain development as both the left and right hemispheres of the brain are utilized, thereby stimulating the intelligence of the child through improved speed and accuracy in calculations, concentration, visual memory, logical reasoning and creativity. In this technologically dynamic society, our aim is to give children the tools and skills necessary to achieve success in school-based curriculum and in any field that they pursue.
Vijayalakshmi Balasubramanian, is a graduate in mathematics from Madras University. She has over 15 years of teaching experience for children in the age group of 6 – 11 years. She is a masters in abacus – mental arithmetic and has trained over 150 teachers in india and Canada. Her expertise lies in content development, teacher training and student evaluation. She has developed the course curriculum for ABC based on a study of the Canadian method of education in Arithmetic. Her passion lies in nurturing children to attain whole brain development through abacus mode of arithmetic training. She is based in Chennai and travels to Canada frequently for training and evaluation purposes.
